Dial Up

Why subscribe for an expensive Internet service when there is dial up Internet connection? When you need only the most basic facility for Internet access, there is no point in paying larger monthly subscriptions for personal website space, unlimited hours, and over-the-top perks. A dial up Internet connection, though now less common, is still practical for Internet surfing.

What is dial up Internet connection?

A dial up Internet connection is one of the pioneering Internet access that became popular during the early 1990's. A dial up Internet connection uses a standard analog frequency in a telephone line so users can surf the Net. The telephone line is connected to internal and external modems. These modems are installed or connected to a computer's central processing unit or CPU.

To surf the Internet, the user must access a dialing control in the computer so the dial up Internet connection will function. The user must input a username and password in the dialing control before the computer dials a certain phone number. Through a modem, the computer contacts the dial up ISP. Upon connection with the dial up ISP, the user will be able to download and access information from various websites.

What are the advantages in using a dial up Internet connection?

Deciding whether to get a dial up Internet connection, DSL or cable connection may be tough considering that the latter types are more popular and are said to be more efficient. However, there are still several advantages in using a dial up Internet connection. These are:

1. Affordability
A dial up Internet connection is the cheapest of the three common types of Internet connections. The affordability of a dial up Internet connection comes from using a simple telephone line. The installation for a dial up Internet connection is also simple, making it less expensive.

2. Saving energy and money
With a dial up Internet connection, you only pay for the number of minutes or hours you spend online. When you're not surfing the Internet, you can choose to disconnect the dial up Internet connection. Doing so also allows you to turn off the modem that also requires electrical power. Needless to say, this helps you cut back on electricity cost.

3. Capability for speed upgrading
While paying for the same amount, the speed of a dial up Internet connection may be improved. There are dial up-boosting software you can use so the dial up speed will be more agreeable.

4. Internet access exclusivity
If you prefer private and exclusive surfing, a dial up Internet connection is ideal. The reason for this is that you'll be able to set your personal username and password that will prevent unauthorised surfers from using your account.
